The gameplay and the art style are both highly inspired by Japanese danmaku shooters. Features: Hand drawn HD (1080p) graphics. The soundtrack sports black metal, polka and folk music. Japanese bullet hell tropes fill in the gaps. The characters are as doujin as it gets. The gameplay is well tuned, refined and pretty much with no skill ceiling. Terra Feminarum isn't easy, even for its genre's standards. There's no Novice option and even Normal is manic right off the bet. The story mode sort of doubles as training wheels. You tackle one chapter at the time and will receive persistent perks for doing so. This allows the player to build up his\/her favorite character, everything becomes a bit more manageable and stays fun. Gained skills can be applied in arcade mode and are dearly needed: no continues, perks need to be re-earned with each run, 1CC or bust.. Terra Feminarum is hands down the most beautiful Shmup I have ever experienced; the colors, background drowing and the music are amazing.I really like the story mode that allows you to :- Start to play on the level following the last one you cleared,- Getting back to the level you cleared to get achievements in order to get much needed improvements to your character (extra life, extra power)This is really cool to do the level you just cleared and getting those achievements, it makes you feel that you really improved at the game.Ok I said the improvements are much needed cause, and that will be my only slightly cons with the game, is that even on the lowest difficulty it's pretty damn hard :P At least it makes me keep playing it over and over coz I really want to see what cool arts await me on the next level.I wholeheartedly recommend this game and also getting the OST.. i love it. More Stages please. An excellent shmup with spectacular visuals,a cast filled with gorgeous waifus and a story taking place in the world of Finnish mythology.. I bought a bunch of bullet hell\/shmup games during steam winter sale and this one was my favorite, for the following reasons:1. It is drop dead cheap. 2. Utilizes the full screen rather than putting black bars on the side, and using only the center portion for play which most other games of this genre do. It drives me mad. What's the point of wasting 50% of the screen, really annoying!3. The soundtrack is great.4. The graphics are very good, they are not some low res stuff that is scaled up. This is a modern product with 1080p graphics, which is what sets it apart from most of the other bullet hell games which seem to low res graphics and seem very outdated. 5. Controller support which surpisingly some of the bullet hells don't have (looks at eXceed with disappointment).Wish more shmups\/bullet hells utilized full screen and had modern graphics. Is that really so much to ask for?. Solid SHMUP with a nice soundtrack and a nice art style. Play as a smug DFC loli, Xena the Warrior Titcow, or not!Holo and go beat up other scantily-clad women in your investigation of the Northern Lights fading.. Most bullet hell shoot em ups on steam are plagued by either technical issues (such as very limited resolution options) or overly nostalgic design decisions (like having arcade as the only playable mode). This game suffers from neither of those problems while also having the most appealing visual style I have seen in a shoot em up and keeping the core gameplay elements of a classic bullet hell shooter intact. The only thing I severely dislike about the game so far is, that in story mode the final stage can only be accessed by completing all challenges in all previous stages. If you want to move up a difficulty, you would also have to repeat the whole process. I'm not a fan of gating endgame content in general, especially if it feels this artificial and forced. If someone has played up to the end of the game, why would you deny him or her the final chapter? Every other chapter is unlocked by beating the previous chapter, why not the final one too? If you really do want to gate it, at least make it interesting! This almost made me not write a review or even write a negative one, because I think that is a ridiculously bad idea that really rubbed me the wrong way, but at the end of the day, the rest of the game is very good so I still think you should give it a try.. i love it. More Stages please. A stunningly beautiful bullet hell game with some of the most graphically amazing bullet patterns ever to grace a monitor. The game comes with 7 stages and 4 difficulty levels. Even at the lowest setting, though, the game is hard. If I had to find a negative point, it's the fact that to unlock the last stage you must complete all the challenges in the first 6 ones, and those challenges invariably include completing the stage without ever getting hit. This is going to cause some frustration.Still, this is just a minor nitpick. If you like bullet hell games, this will certainly be a satisfying purchase. I'd, however, wait for a sale to buy it.. Not really a bullet hell game that I can recommend. Nothing that I can specifically point at, it just didn't have the same feel as other top bullet hell games. One of the glaring problems I noticed is that the color palette is kind of limited. For instance, enemies and the bullets they fire have the same color scheme which creates needless confusion. Verdict: 4.5\/10, not bad, but not good either.
