I am still not completely done with the VN, but so far I have to say that it's money well spent! I think this game, although a bit dark-ish, is very beautiful in it's own way. I honestly don't see the protagonist as the villan and I don't dislike him at all. I can understand his perspective and I can understand and feel for the other characters as well. There are many VN with villan protagonists who are doing bad things just for the sake of doing them, no meaning or reason behind them, and it bothered me a bit when some people in the comments compared this one to those kind of games (I played them all). This is nothing like that. This is about a emotionally troubled and pretty disturbed man who couldn't let go of things that happened in the past. He is very wrong for doing things in the way that he is doing them, often ignoring any voice of reason, but he is NOT doing that because he is simply "evil". There were so many scenes where Alex shows emotion and I really felt for him. I don't like what he's doing, but I kind of kept hoping that he will turn it around (the feeling that I don't get with pure evil protagonists). I felt for all of the characters, and sometimes I just screamed inside "can't we all just get along and play nice!" I applaude to the creators for bringing this to life. The only con that I would have would be the voice of William.. It gets kind of boring, BUT has no effect to the overall experience of the game.I really love it, really. For people reading this: I won't write any "trigger warnings" and things like that, it's just stupid, what are you doing here after reading the plot summary if you still need some kind of a warning. More importantly, how did you end up in a BL part of the planet if ra.p.ey FICTIONAL things freak you out?I highly recommend! Studio Pieplus - I <3 U. Yes yes very nice, victorian dudes smooching each other as part of a revenge plot, 10\/10 would unlock all h scenes again. Even if I really love BL games (and wish for more BL games to be available on Steam)... I just can't recommend "Beyond Eden".But at first let me say what I liked about it:+ the music isn't something to remember but it sounds good and soothing+ the characters voices are relaxing and they sound professional+ the art is really lovable (and oh how I love some of the pictures)+ there are very different love interests to pick from + the protagonist can be both seme or uke based on the route/choices+ if you like 18+ scenes... well there are many to choose fromNevertheless... now for the reasons why I am disappointed after playing the game:- the protagonist (Alex Wake) is simply an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥... I didn't want a sweet and innocent protagonist for a story about revenge but there is just no chance for me to like him.. As the player I have to like the main character even a little bit or else I can't enjoy the game- the background story about said protagonist is good and it has some shocking moments but it doesn't justify the things that Alex is doing to his love interests (some of them didn't even do anything wrong to Alex)- I can't understand how some routes are all about Alex r@ping someone and yet there is still a chance for the choosen character to fall in love with Alex.. just how?!- the choices that you have to make while playing are kinda obvious- there should have been more time to talk about the characters and to develop deep feelings between them and Alex- there was so much potential about the story but I have the feeling that it was kinda rushedAll in all it was not really worth the money. That's kinda sad because I waited so long for this game. Nevertheless it had some good sides and I am always happy to support visual novels.(Oh and English is not my mother tongue so if I made any mistakes you can keep them xD). So let me start out by saying... there are not that many male/male dating sims. Especially not ones that are really in deep with complex stories. I did not dislike this game. In many ways I enjoyed it... but it was much pricier than I normally spend on dating sims. For me to spend as much as I did on this game (as it was not on sale) I have certain expectations that it did not mean. I can deal with not having a full english audio, but I cannot deal with the sheer number of spelling and grammer issues. Let me clarify, I am not obsessed with spell and grammer and I am prone to such errors, but for a game as expernsive as this is... the amount of errors was unacceptable. In one route alone I counted about thirty. Some errors changed the meaning of the sentence entirely. My final thoughts are, I would recommend this game but only if you bought it on sale.. This is my first review and English is not my first language, so sorry for any mistakes. Beyond eden is a pretty dark bl game centertered around Alex Wake, a man who dedicated his life to revenge. If you enjoy dark, twisted stories with manipulative, disturbed, cold-hearted, but not entirely unsympathetic protagonist, you probably will enjoy this game as much as I do. Now about the things I liked and didn’t like about this game.Pros:+The main character is so unique and for me, a person who is sick of docile goody two shoes or misunderstood antiheroes, playing as a confident, smart and manipulative protagonist was like a breath of fresh air.+Writing is pretty good. R*pe is treated as r*pe and unhealthy relationships are not presented as healthy.+ Almost every character in this game is full of flaws and that makes them perfectly human and relatable. + CG’s are pretty. + Music is good and suits the atmosphere of the game.+Voice acting during s*x scenes is super intense.Cons:- The only thing I didn’t like about the writing is the excess of r*ape scenes ( some of them were , in my opinion, unnecessary) and rather abrupt ending of “good endings”.- Translation needs to be edited (lots of typos and a couple of missing words).- Backgrounds are kinda plain and dull (maybe the artist meant them to be that way, idk). And guys, I must mention that the majority of relationships in this game are not healthy. The most vanilla routes are Lawrence and Jeremy (who is not really romanceable), so I wold not recommend this game to you if you are not into dark stuff. My personal rating for this game is 8,5/10.. couldv'e been great. on the surface, this is a beautiful game with gorgeous visuals, spectacular voice acting, a fitting soundtrack, and a well-paced, intriguing storyline.in the end, however, this game is seriously problematic NOT because it's dark, or the fact that it contains sexual assault - it was the treatment and portrayal of the matter.♥♥♥♥♥♥scenes occur inevitably in at least 3 of the routes, and all of those routes have the possibility for a "good end." that is seriously misleading. there is no relationship that can develop from a basis of manipulation/assault into something healthy or positive, and acting like it does presents a false and dangerous message. this kind of mentality is one that is perpetuated by the BL industry in Japan, and while it is nice that this game avoids some of the common tropes from that sphere of influence (i.e. stereotypical sexual roles, sexualization of minors) it fails to rise above it completely through its justification of sexual abuse and manipulation.yes, most people here will eagerly dismiss the claims i'm making and argue that fiction has no effect on the real ideology despite plenty of research that suggests otherwise. my one negative review will probably not influence anyone, which makes me sad becuase i really did want to love this game, it's honestly such a shame.. I love this game. It's one of my favorites. The story is great. Revenge, love, lust, and mystery.. Beyond Eden is basically a gay anime version of Emily Brontë's book Wuthering Heights, though this game is certainly less boring. 10/10 would be a viscious blackmailing bastard set out to destroy everything and everyone he knows all for the sake of revenge again.
